Understanding the Home Page and Main Navigation

Modified on Wed, 22 Jul at 1:34 PM

Summary

The Home page is the default screen that opens after you successfully log in to Luminar Works. It gives you a planning-focused snapshot of a selected period, quick routes into the Planner, and learning resources and platform updates. This article explains the main menu, the Home page layout, and how to find your way around.

Prerequisites

- A Luminar Works account with valid login credentials.

- No special permissions are required to view your own Home page - what you see reflects the Business Units and data you already have access to.

Step-by-step instructions

1. Log in

After a successful login, Luminar Works opens directly to the Home page.

2. Understand the left-hand menu

The menu sits on the left of the screen and is expanded by default, showing each item's icon and full name. You can contract it by selecting the icon in its top-right corner - in the contracted view, only icons are shown, with the item's name available on hover. From top to bottom, the menu contains:

- User profile - the logged-in user, listed at the top.

- Home - the default screen after login.

- Business Configuration - set up and maintain your Business Units.

- Planner - the planning page, where trips are built on the Gantt and published.

- Data - with sub-items for Assets, Agents, Customers, and Tasks (Sites are accessed one level of drill-through from a Customer).

- Integration - CSV import and REST API access.

- Admin - users and subscription management.

- Support - help guides and support channels.

- Chat - in-app chat.

- Logout.

3. Read the Home page header

The header shows a greeting and a calendar selection. The calendar sets the period covered by the KPIs and the task list below it.

4. Review the planning snapshot KPIs

For the period set by the calendar, the Home page shows:

- Task count by state - Ready, Planned, and Blocked.

- Time utilization - a percentage, for resources (Assets and Agents).

- Resource utilization - a percentage, for Assets.

- Count of trips planned.

- Total distance planned.

5. Use the task list

Below the KPIs, a task list toggles between two views:

- Ready - tasks eligible to be planned.

- At Risk - a subset of Ready tasks whose end date is today or a prior date, so they can be addressed with haste.

Each task row shows the Site name, task identifier, a task type icon (wrench for service, up arrow for pick-up, down arrow for drop-off), and the date range and time window of the task's service window. The list is paginated with Previous/Next and page-number buttons. Select Go to planner to open the Planner, defaulted to today's planning horizon.

6. Explore learning resources

- Videos - suggested YouTube videos to help you understand the platform and its modules. Select See All to open the Luminar Works YouTube channel in a new tab.

- Pro Tips - short articles with helpful information about the platform and surrounding processes, shown as cards with a title, description, category label, and a Read more button that opens the article on the Luminar Works website in a new tab.

7. Check the account and updates panel

This area shows a user card (your name and the Business Units you have access to), module cards for available or suggested modules with a Subscribe Now button, and Announcements about software updates, new releases, and upcoming maintenance.
